Keep it fun
 
I used to use the old Alpha to Omega book which was good but the reading sentences were boring as old hell, and gradually I began making up my own instead of insisting that my pupils read the boring ones. Gradually I wrote this new phonics course.
I then revised the lists and started the course right at the beginning with basic letter sounds.
 
If your kids are having great problems remembering basic letter sounds then I recommend the full phonics course “Dead Easy Phonics” or my app Friendly Phonics 1 and 2 for iPads because much more attention is put on letter sounds, blends digraphs etc and it is taught in a truly multi sensory way.
Every week one new sound or rule is introduced and only one. So your students only have to learn one new thing a week.
